About Us

Celebrating Six decades of Service to the Diabetic Community

Over the past six decades, Diabetic Association of India, Poona Branch, has remained committed to provide essential healthcare services and education to diabetic patients, especially poor and juvenile. All our services are offered at concessional rates for all, and free for the very poor and needy members.

Our association proudly operates from its own premises located at Karve Road in 'Swapnanagari Society, where a dedicated trained staff is available to provide our services to patients from 8 am to 6 pm (except Sunday and Govt. Holidays). The journey began on a small scale at the residence of Late Dr. M. P. Joshi, and through the unwavering support of doctors, social dignitaries, donors and well-wishers, our association flourished. Contributions from our Late Dr. H.V. Sardesai and Late Dr. Ramesh Godbole were earmarking pillars in our success story. Today, we are proud to be progressing under the expert leadership of Dr. Jagmohan Talwalkar and Dr. Bhaskar Harshe, renowned Diabetologists in Pune.

  • Creating and arousing Awareness: We organise seminars, meetings and workshops to educate the public about diabetes prevention and proper management.
  • Affordable Care: Providing specialist consultations with doctors and dieticians at minimal cost and offering laboratory tests in well-equipped facilities at concessional rates.
  • Support for the Needy: Offering free or highly subsidised medication, treatment, and guidance, particularly to juvenile diabetic patients and the economically disadvantaged.
  • Advanced Treatment Facilities: Operating a state-of-the- art Diabetic Foot Clinic to provide specialized care for diabetic patients. We provide specialised ophthalmic care using latest Fundus on phone camera.
  • Educational Initiatives: For the last 38 years, we have been publishing Madhumitra, only magazine in Marathi dedicated to diabetes awareness. As Maharashtra's first magazine focused on diabetes, Madhumitra is widely circulated both within the state and beyond. Recently, we transitioned the magazine to an online format under the able editorship of Dr. Mrs. Vasudha Sardesai.
  • Continued Medical Education (CME) for diabetes practising Doctors as well as to para-medical diabetic health-care providers: Association is registered with MMC (Maharashtra Medical Council, Mumbai) for organising CME's for the practicing Doctors and para-medical diabetic health-care providers keeping them well versed with latest world-wide updates about Research done in the field of diabetes.
  • Organising Camps: We regularly organise medical camps in nearby villages in the vicinity of Pune. We also conduct educational one day and residential camps for our members at various locations in India.
  • Special Clinic for Juvenile Diabetics (Bal Madhumehi): Conducted under the able and expert Diabetologist Dr. Amit Walimbe and Dr. Mrs. Snehal Desai, Bal-Madhumehi Clinic is held regularly, providing dedicated specialised care and guidance for young diabetic patients. The primary goal of the clinic is to educate juvenile patients and their families about their diabetes, empowering them to properly manage thereby maintaining healthy and active daily routine. This program also involves informative lecture sessions by guest doctors, who provide valuable and practical insights on maintaining the health of other vital organs. These sessions help the Type I diabetic patients to address their unique challenges
